Audio Systems: 1997 GMS Suburban Delco car stereo, radio volume, radio unit

Hi Cody,
I have been having a problem with my Delco car stereo. The volume would turn up full volume on its own, then go down, then back up. There would be days that it would work fine then other days it would go bizerk. The volume is enough to burst an eardrum. I also noticed when it finally did work on some days, if I turned off the ignition then turn it back on the radio volume would go full volume up then back down then up again.

So, My husband thought it was the volume control. We bought the same type of radio from ebay and it is doing the same.

Do you know what might be causing this. It doesn't seem it is the radio?

  ok if you swaped the unit with another and you still had the problem you need to take it to a qualified install shop for some troubleshooting and testing .. my best guess is a problem in the wiring that is causing the volume to go up .. if you hadnt swaped the unit out with another i would have said purchase a new radio unit the old one has a short  or stuck buttons ect all of the common problems that cause this , but if you did try this you should take it in for testing .. does the system have steering wheel controls ? if it does this also could be a point of problems with a stuck switch ect.. i'm sorry i cant help you out any more than this but if you need anything else let me know
