Audio Systems: Mercury Cougar Power Antena..!!n, haynes repair manual, mercury cougar

Mercury Cougar (1996)... somebody liked the antenna and broke it off...so now I have to replace it
........I  bought a Mercury repair ant kit but we now find the pull down gear is gone....so I have to replace the whole assembly ...motor and all..I bought one the retro kits...and it has a three wire set up...red from +12 volts at the battery...black for ground from the negative side of the battery and blue wire for signal....however the Mercury only has two wires; a green with a yellow stripe and a red wire....I guess it picks up ground off the mounting bracket.....
But for the life of me I can't get it to work.....I get it to go up to the raised position, but then 20 seconds later it retracts......all this happens with the ignition on.....


What am I missing in this wiring set up..?

 i'm not really good at antenna questions but i do get alot of them seem they can give a fit .. the best tip i can give you is stop by your local parts store and buy a haynes repair manual for the cougar and in the back they will have all the wire schematics for differnt systems there you should be able to track down the wires and see if you are missing any and where you can get it from.. thats the only thing i know to tell you .. you also might try some of the experts in auto repair or restoration for some pointers ..sorry i cant get you going but if you need anything else let me know
