Audio Systems: Toyota Camry Radio, toyota camry, radio work

Question
We bought a 1986 Toyota Camry (50,000 miles) for our son last year. The biggest complaint he has is the radio cuts out intermittently. Sometimes a "tap" of two on the radio will cause it to come back on for a while. It seems worse in warmer weather but happens all year. Any ideas?

Answer
Hello Deb,
A good clue to the problem is when you said that a tap or two will make the radio work again. based on this I would say that the radio has defective solder connections. On many of these Toyota radios I find defective solder connections on the pins of the power connector that is soldered to the main circuit board.
