Audio Systems: car radio randomly changes frequency, fm bands, assistance line

Question
I have a 2004 Honda Civic LX I just bought three months ago. My radio will randomnly change frequencies, both on am and fm bands, when I'm driving. There's no pattern I can detect, albeit to say that it only goes DOWN one frequency. Never up, and never more than one frequency. I took it the service people at Honda, and they took it on a test drive for 15 minutes, but could not duplicate the problem. I asked if they had a way to electronically check if there was a short, or any other tests other than just driving it hoping that to catch it in the act. They said no. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Jon ,

it figures you are almost hopeless at a dealship! the best tip i can give you is first give the customer assistance line usually in the back of your owners manual ask them if they have incountered this problem before check for recalls ect.. now if this comes up with nothing stop by a local install shop that is reliable with a good reputation and ask them to do some troubleshooting to see if there is a short on the internal side of the unit * which is what i suspect* and since the vehicle is under warranty this would be covered ( here is a good reason to pay the extra coin at the repair shop so they can give you a statement saying the unit if faulty ) this will let you take it to your dealership and show proof and hopefully have them replace it for you.. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
