Im adding a wakeboard tower to my boat.  It will have 4 speakers on the tower (85watt each) and the factory 4 speakers in the boat.  I need an amp but I don't want to spend more than I have to.  My Factory Clarion cd player model M5675 has 4 RCA outputs.  I want the tower hooked to the front and the boat speakers hooked to the rear so I have fade control from  top to bottom.  They are all marine speakers.  Is it safe to assume they are all 4 ohm speakers?  What is the best amp set-up for the money?  I was thinking of parrelling the two top left speakers and the same respectfully for the other 6 speakers.  How should I do it and what is the minimum size amp I need?

Hello Roger,
Your best bet for a good amp would be to stop by any good stereo store to pick out an amp. an amp with 65-90 watts should be safe for your 85 watt speakers. With any amp you purchase you will need to measure the impedence of the speakers. Use caution when hooking up the speakers so that you maintain the output impedence of the amp. If you parallel 2 four ohm speakers the impedence will now be 4 ohms!

Isn't 2 four ohm speakers paralleled now 2 ohms?  (Ref. last sentence of answer).

Sorry I goofed, I didn't look at what I was typing. Yes two 4 ohm speakers together will give you 2 ohms impedence!
You can connect as many speakers that you want, in series and parallel as long as you maintain the output impedence of the amp for each channel.
