Audio Systems: Automatic Antenna, antenna work, auto antenna

Question
I have a 96 Spyder with an automatic antenna.  It will normally go up very slowly, with hesitation and sometimes it will not go up at all. However, you can hear the motor working.  Do you think this is a connection problem, I need to replace the antenna or do you think it is the motor that may need to be replaced?  How expensive can this get?  And is it possible to replace the auto antenna with a standard antenna?

Thanks,
Stacey

Answer
Stacey,

i'm not a good expert on antenna work but more than likly its not a connection problem first before i done any removing or reinstalling would be cover your cars area with towel and spray a few coats of WD-40 or equal lubricant to see if this helps the antenna.. over time rust and built up can slow the antenna down .. now if this doesnt help i would say you need a replacement ... to my knowledge i think they come as a whole unit with motor and antenna.. but you can check your local parts store to make sure .. i would estimate from 30-80 dollars for a price.. but you should be able to use a plain standard antenna in its place as long as the mounts match up for the holes in the body .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
