Audio Systems: broken kenwood, volt supply lines, volt meter

Question
i have a kenwood kdc-7007 cd-receiver that doesnt wanna power up. it has the retractable faceplate with the hidden button. Ive opened the unit up and didnt notice any bad circuits. I even got to the front of the face plate and tried powering up there as well but it had no effect. Im wondering if there are some internal components i can probe to see why its not turning on. What should i look for. If the motor to the faceplate was burned out,,would the unit still turn on?

Answer
Hello Chris,
You should first check that you still have 12 volts with the key on and 12 volts hot at all times supplied to the stereo. If you do have the 12 volt supply lines then perhaps a voltage regulator inside the stereo has failed. To troubleshoot this stereo you will need three things, 1, electronics troubleshooting experience. 2,a volt meter. 3,a schematic or service manual for this stereo. I find on these units that the voltage regulator/s will fail most often causing a dead unit.
