Audio Systems: New Radio Installation, inline fuse, aiwa cd

Question
Hi, I purchased a brand aiwa cd player/stereo for my 1968 Ford Mustang.  I'm not able to get it to work.  I have a good ground and hooked the power wire (red) into the fuse box.  This method worked for an older cassette player/radio I hooked up, and that worked fine.  The only difference I see is I have no place (that I know of) to hook the yellow  (backup) wire into.  Is this nessecary for new CD players?  Do I need to have the speaker wires hooked up to get power on the new system?  Because I don't.

 Thanks for the help,
Jesse

Answer
Jesse,

it sounds like you are leaving out the turn on RMS wire .. here is a basic break down of the 3 wires needed to make a cd player/tape player ect.. and even amplifiers work .. you need a good ground *black* , a direct power source from the battery ran through an inline fuse also called 12 volt constant *yellow in most aftermarket units* and an 12volt ignition/turn on/rms/accessory wire normally red in most aftermarket units .. now this turn on wire needs to be connected to your ignition turn on wire .. normally you can find this wire in your fuse block and can tap into it ... this is something you will need to track down .. before you do that make sure the unit will work .. connect the 12v constant and the ground and use another wire to bridge from the 12v constant wire to the turn on *yellow* wire and see if the unit powers up .. if it does your in good shape .. if it doesnt its a problem with the unit .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
