Audio Systems: CD skipping, railroad crossings, foam padding

Question
Hi,

I just installed a JVC KD-S690 cd player in my car, and have had trouble with skipping. I owned a model one step down from this one, and I never had trouble going over modest bumps. With this one, it seems to be incessant, even with regular city and highway driving. Is there anything I can do to help stop this, or am I stuck with a dud? I thought it might be an issue with the CDs but i tried with brand new ones, and it was just as bad.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Paul,

its strange that a better grade unit would do that .. as long as you duplicated the install exactly .. i would try giving JVC a call ask their tech support there could be a malfunction inside the unit itself and if its under warranty which it should be they will have to repair it or give you a new unit ... now if for some reason you cant do that .. there are a few tricks you can try to help cusion the unit .. i used hi-temp rolled foam padding from home depot in my 4 wheel drive i use for dail driver this along with some larger bolts in the mounting kit has done pretty well except large bumps and railroad crossings with any speed.. jus try some combinations and play around with materials until you find one that works for your unit and car... hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
