Audio Systems: FM Radio problems, antenna cable, antenna booster

Question
I purchased a used vehicle from a private owner.
When I purchased he told me that the FM Radio
does not work.  The AM stations work, but no FM.
Can you give me some advice as to where to begin?
Thanks for any help you can give me.  The FM
stations play static - no music. The vehicle is
a 1996 Dodge Intrepid.

Answer
Betty,

the most common cause is a bad tuner which only has one fix either live with it until something more serious goes wrong or swap out with a new unit... but before you dive into a new unit there are a few little tweeks you can try out before.. first thing pull the unit out make sure the antenna cable is securely plugged into the unit and also make sure the cable is in good shape with no cuts or frayed insulation.. also leave the unit out and turn it on to FM and wiggle the cable to see if any changes occur.. if its anything such as picking up a station then you might want to check into have your antenna/cable replaced but this is highly unlikly.. you can also try an antenna booster you can pick one up at any radio shack or electronics store and give it a try if the booster has no effect then its a sure bet that the tuner is down .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
