Audio Systems: Check CD error on delco radio, chev malibu, delco radio

Question
Hi Tom, I'm hoping you can help me out.

I have a 2001 Chev Malibu with the factory installed (I beleive they are made by delco) CD player/radio.

When playing a CD I tried to skip ahead about 3 songs at once, the cd player jammed and spit out the CD with the "Check CD" message showing. The problem is that now it won't take another CD. It just keeps saying Check CD over and over. Even when there is no CD inserted it will keep flashing "Check CD" and trying to eject a CD. This continues even after I have shut the car off. I had to leave a cd partially in the radio to stop it from trying to eject all the time for fear it would kill the battery eventually or burn out the motor.

I am hoping you know of a way to reset the radio so it will stop saying the check CD message over and over and realize that there is no cd in it. I'm afraid of disconnecting the battery since I have heard people run into problems with the radio being "lockec" afterwards and they have to return to the dealder.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hello William,
You can try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnect to see if this will reset the processor in the radio. Sometimes this will restore normal operation. I have found on some CD stereos that I repair, part of the label on home made CD's will come off and this will cause the problem that you are having.
