Audio Systems: No power to new CD player., fuse block, bronco ii

Question
My husband and I bought an 84 Bronco II a few months ago. For a bit of
background, it had a factory radio, not even a tape player. And it worked
fine, but didnt light up at all (neither do the floor shifter, back-up lights etc), except flickering when doing light off-roading.

I just installed the new cd player we bought and it wont even turn on. Nothing at all. Is it more likely to be something I did wrong or is it probably related to the whatever stopped the old radio from lighting up? I bought the kit and it was so straight forward I dont see what I could have done wrong. Fuses are fine, ground wire is nicely attached to the body and I even tried the reset button a few times. Im stumped!

Thanks for any help,

Jessica

Answer
Jessica,

ok it sounds like you used a wire harness adapter which is GREAT most people skip this step and end up with a huge MESS .. since you had the problem before with lights and ect.. it sounds like a loose ground somewhere maybe even the main ground to the chassis that could have some mud caked on it and isnt getting a good solid connection .. but we will start with the small stuff .. clean the battery terminals really good check the cables to make sure there are no bare spots ect.. clean the radio ground and any other ground you can find related to the fuse block/radio/and interior lights .. clean them and make sure they are tight and the wires have no damage ... also take a test light and probe the radio's harness to make sure its getting "power" and "ground" to the unit also take the new cd player out and hard wire it to the battery using the 12volt constant wire and the RMS/ignition turn on wire to the hot post and the ground to the - post to see if atleast the unit powers on .. if it doesnt .. the problem is the unit take it back and swap for a new one .. ok also go to your fuse block pull each and EVERY fuse out not just radio and interior light fuses but all fuses and check for blows , replace as needed and make sure they are pressed in tightly... now in this mess of tips i think you should find the cure .. but if you do not let me know and i will give you plan B ... hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
