Audio Systems: Power Consumption issue?, car stereo store, stiffening capacitors

Question
Just installed a new Clarion "high power" Tuner/Amp/CD player in my boat.  Also replaced the speakers with higher power rating than the OEM's.
Problem:  The stereo sounds great until I crank the volume up (>50%), then front panel display will start to flicker and the unit shuts down momentarily.

I have only tried the stereo with the engine "OFF".  Am I asking too much of my new 12VDC battery?

Answer
Hello Dave,
I would say that your Battery is probably OK, The problem may be in the wiring to the radio. If you haven't already installed a heavy wire from the battery to the radio, I suggest that you do this. For a high powered stereo you might also want to install across the DC power line at the radio, one or two stiffening capacitors. You can find these at any good car stereo store. Caution, consider installing a battery that only powers the stereo. With a dedicated battery you won't need to worry if you are playing the radio when anchored.
