Audio Systems: AV Receiver Problem, onkyo receivers, carousel cd

Question
Hi Kevin,
Hello,
I recently transplanted my Onkyo TX-DS575X receiver to a new entertainment center.  Shorly after hooking everything back up, the receiver stopped producing sound.  Everything on the display is functioning but no watts are going to the speakers.  I have checked everything (A/B switch, mute, output selection, etc.) but no sound on any of the outputs.  If I turn the volume to max, I can get a very soft signal in my headphones when I plug them in but that's it.  Is this what will happens when a fuse is blown?  So far I've always had excellent luck with Onkyo receivers so this problem has me confused.

I would greatly appreciate any expertise that you can share on this issue...

Thanks,
Chris

Answer
Dear Chris,

Yes, it sounds like a blown fuse--something a bit too common when components are moved around. Since the headphones are on a separate output amp, I'm not surprised that you're getting some sound out of them. However, the faint sound may indicate a failure in the preamplifier section. I'd check out the user-servicable fuses first. If that doesn't do the trick, I'd have the unit checked out by a qualified repair technician.

I agree. Onkyo makes great stuff. I own three Onkyo pieces myself: AV receiver, DVD player, and carousel CD changer. I recommend a great many of their products to friends because of their reliability and solid build qualities.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
