Audio Systems: fm reception, rf amp, mazda tribute

Question
I'm not sure this is in your line but I don't know where else to check .Problem is on a 2003 Mazda Tribute.2 days ago it just lost FM reception. AM is still strong but ALL of FM stations are now very weak including preset ones we have used for years.Any ideas ? My wife is NOT a happy driver anymore...........jn

Answer
Hello Jaake,
One thing is for sure, the antenna is ok. If the antenna was the problem you wouldn't receive AM stations. Most likely the FM module either has defective solder connections or a RF amp transistor has failed. The problem might not even be in the FM module, but rather in the stereo decoder section. The output of the decoder may be in a partial MUTE condition. The remedy for this is that the radio needs to be removed and sent for service. contact me direct for info on having your radio repaired at my service facility if you would care to.
