Audio Systems: factory CD player, ford cd, slide assemblies

Question
When I put the CD in it makes a clicking noise for about 15 seconds before it ejects the CD.  You know right away that it is not going to work.  When it is working it accepts the CD right away.  I will re-Email you with the model number.   Thanks-------------------------

Hello I have a 1998 Mercury mountaineer.  My CD works sometimes and then sometimes it won't accept a cd when I insert it.  I triede new CD's also.  One day it works fine the next day it doesn't.  Do you have any suggestions?

Hello John,
Does your CD player take in the CD and then eject it right away, or does it take it in and try to play and then eject it?  please give me the complete model number off the CD unit.

Answer
John,
On many of these ford CD units I find that a lack of lubrication on the load gears and slide assemblies can cause the CD to not go in all the way and you will hear that clicking noise. I do recall that I found on a couple CD units recently that several of the teeth on one gear were striped slightly and it caused the clicking noise.
I will be waiting for the model number.
