Audio Systems: Radio Power Problem, scosche wiring harness, nissan sentra

Question
-------------> Follow Up from Chad

Okay,

I rechecked all fuses in the entire block and all good, I even replaced the radio (10a) and ignition (20a) just to make sure they were not faulty. Unfortunatly that did not restore power to the unit. However, above the fuse block behind the dash looks like some relays, should I check them?

I did find the in-line fuses under the hood finally and found the one for ignition (which was green for the Nissan) they were all in good shape, no melting or what-not. So now I am going to to the next phase here, I have ordered a Multimeter for next day delivery, and I suppose I need to isolate the problematic wire(s) and follow it to the problem point. I guess in a pinch I could tap the Cig Lighter for the 12V DC I need. But I am really wanting to avoid doing that if at all possible.

Any more ideas of what I can do?

Thanks again, you have already been a help, I just hope I can get the problem cleared up soon. Will write another follow-up after testing the wires with the multimeter.

Thanks!
Chad

Greetings Cody,

I have a 1990 Nissan Sentra. I wanted to replace my stock radio with a much better aftermarket one. Using a Pioneer model DEH-1600 and a Scosche Wiring Harness #NN02B (to avoid cutting wires) I hooked up my new Head Unit and to my suprise the unit did not power up. I have checked my fuse block for any blown fuses but none were found, I also checked and rechecked all my wiring to make sure nothing got crossed up and again, everything is in order.

I decided to hook the original radio back up to for a test of the eletrical system and the original unit did not power up either, which is was before the install. Could the problem be with an in-line fuse or perhaps with a fuse in the engine compartment? If this could be the case, where will I find these offending fuses? I have searched the area and have been unable to locate them. Any other reason this could be happening? How could I make sure my next installation does not end up such as this one?

Thanks for your help in this matter.

Chad,

ok i would almost bet my paycheck the problem is in the cabin fuse block .. go to it and pull out and check every fuse not just the radio fuses one at a time i would say you will find the problem in the 12volt ignition/accessory fuse usually a 20 amp yellow fuse so check those and that should cure it .. also you can check the under hood fuses i'm unsure of where they are on a sentra but your owners manual should have a diagram for them .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks

Answer
Chad,

that is strange as far as i know there is nothing to a stereo besides head unit sometimes a fuse in the back of it or in the harness , the fuses in the fuse block , and the main fuses under the hood, there really isnt anything else that can cause all power to the head unit fail even the stock unit should power up but you said it tried it right .. you could saved some bucks and used a test light just to check where the juice is and where its not much more simple and cheap but the meter can help trace down problem areas .. the only other thing i can think of is maybe a wire is melted probley a 12volt or ignition wire somewhere down the harness maybe , but about the relays as far as i know there are none used most of the relays are for turn signals , flasher , airbag ect.. but things might be differnt from car to car ... keep me posted if there is anything i can do let me know

thanks
