Audio Systems: CD player only playing his but radio is playing normal, sony cd player, defective unit

i just put in a sony cd player in a '89 New Yorker and im not sure if something is wrong with the cd player or what.  When i turn on just the radio everything is fine, but when i put in a cd only "hi's" come out of all the speakers and its not playing really loud.  have you ever came accross this problem before and what do you think i should do to fix the problem?

  humm .. try turning on the "loud" function on the unit and check the EQ if its equiped with one .. other than that its a strange problem that the radio will work fine but the CD doesnt i would say defective unit return it for a replacement or repair under warranty .. hope this helps if you need anything else let me know
