Glad to help, but first more information. Makes and models of components very helpful. What's the objective for connecting the A/V receiver to the "main" receiver?

To connect an external preamp to any other amplifier, amplifier must have "preamp in" jacks. You may try line level input jacks (CD, Aux, tuner, etc.--but *not* PHONO). If the plugs are not compatible, take the cables to Radio Shack and find the appropriate adapters.
