Audio Systems: Wiring problems, gauge size, pioneer system

Question
I just bought a new pioneer system for my car.  i have an '89 Firebird which I just took the stock cassette deck out of.  I also bought the adapter at Wal-mart that says it is for 77-89 Firebirds.  The adapter does not even match the plug, so I've cut the wires.  Can you tell me what each of the wires are by color and gauge size, or at least point me in the right direction?  Is there an adapter specifically made for my car?

Answer
Stewart,

bad move never cut the plug off if you can wire it back on color for color and go to radio shack ..show them the adapter you purchased and see if they have one that is differnt some vehicles say 89 but they really have 90 technology radio should be able to help you out and get you the right adapter so you dont have to fly blind and try to wire in str8 that is the worst mistake that alot of people make .. but if for somereason they cant get a harness * but they can* visit this page it has a basic GM wire schematic its for late model gm's but it still might help you out
