Audio Systems: bass cuts out, underrun protection, aiwa cd

Question
I drive a 92 prelude with a basic aiwa cd deck, 1 12" kenwood subwoofer and powered by an Alpine 700watt mono amplifier. The problem I keep having is whenever i turn the volume up to fairly loud level with a good amount of bass, it will hit for a few seconds but then all of a sudden the bass will cut out. I always have to turn off the deck then turn it back on a lower volume and bass setting. Im not sure what is causing this but the last amp i had was a 150watt bridgeable amp and had no problem makin the sub hit. I also had two alpine type s subwoofers and a 1000watt amp on the all the same wiring i have now and it no problem making my ride rattle like crazy. I would appreciate if you may help me with some idea as to what is causing it to short out or go into protect mode. thank you

Answer
Chris,

ok the first thing that comes to mind is a capacitor since you are running 700 watts of a high end brand i would go up to 1 farad cap .. i think what happens is everything shuts down from a current underrun protection which most headunits and even amps have to prevent overdraw and a possible meltdown .. the cap acts a mini battery storing juice for the HEAVY bass hits of high volume which can drain a factory battery... also something you might want to check on is how you have your sub wired into your amp i have a page  http://www.geocities.com/evilparadise02/stereo.html
that you can check out to double check your wiring it has pics of almost every ohm combination .. also if you already have a cap make sure you are using no more than 3 feet of ground cable and that its secured tightly to a bare metal piece of the body/frame and that it is the same gauge as the power wire small things sometimes can cause big problems i would use 4-6 gauge wire the heavier the better in all cases i hope this helps you out if i missed something feel free to let me know and i will see what else i can do for you

thanks
