Audio Systems: Disk Mounting, laser lens, lens cleaner

Question
Kevin,
My Onkyo DVD has been working perfectly, but, last night it would not load the DVD Movie, I can hear the drive trying to spin the CD, but it does not, then it times out, and says, no disk,,,this sounds like a driver problem, can I take apart and see what is causing the drive not to spin, I have no warranty left,,,

Answer
Dear Terry,

When either a CD or DVD player refuses to read *any* disc (make sure you tried two or three of both in the player), it usually means one of two things has happened. First, the laser lens is dirty and needs cleaning. Second, the belt that drives the motor is worn out and requires replacing.

The first fix only requires that you buy a lens cleaner and use it as directed (cheap). The second fix requires an expert technician open up the box and replace the drive belt. I do not recommend that non-experts try this one.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
