Audi Repair: 2002 a6, cylinder head gasket, timing gears

Question
I have an A6, 3.0ltr AWD Quatro with 51k miles. It is running rough and blowing antifreeze vapor out of each tailpipe. Once warmed it it smoothes out yet the antifreeze must be refilled every day. The dealer recently replace the varible speed timing gears and belts.

Answer
Hi,  If you are leaking antifreeze, then the problem is either a cracked cylinder head, cracked block or bad cylinder head gasket.  Any of these jobs are major expense.  Did the engine overheat at some point?  Did the dealer replace those items to fix the symptom you are asking about?  That seems strange as it is not related.  Anyway, the best way to check this is to do a compression test, and find out which cylinders are low.  Then at least you know which bank is the problem.  Good luck, and let me know, Jan
