Audi Repair: How to remove service word from display, trip odometer, a4 tdi

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I have just serviced my 03 a4 tdi 130 bhp and am trying to find out how to remove from dash display a service message, Can message be removed without having to plug into a pc, thanks paul.

ANSWER: Hi,  To re-set the service lights you will need to connect up a VAG-COM.  Not necessarily a PC.  Handhelds can be obtained fairly inexpensively.  Good luck,  Jan

QUESTION: I should have said that the word service appears on dash readout and i was trying to clear this as i have just serviced the car by changing oil, filter, etc is there a way to clear readout by pressing the dash buttons thanks.

Answer
Try the following:

0. Display reads "Service!" when you first start the car.
1. With the ignition key in the off position, push and hold the right button under the speedometer. This is the button you use to reset the trip odometer also.
2. Turn the ignition key to the on position, but don't start the engine. Keep holding down the right button while you turn the key.
3. Push the left button under the tachometer. Your service light should reset to say something like "Service in 8100 miles."
