Audi Repair: Audi a6 Instrument Cluster, salvage yard, radio light

The light on the IC has gone out where the PRND123 should read, and the whole middle panel goes black when putting it in any other gear. There is no Temp light/or radio light but says "Press the brake to put in gear" lights up and the OK lights up, then goes black after changing gears. Do you have any suggestions?

These modules are notorious for problems, but normally just lines drop out of the dsiplay.  Yours is doing something else, which could still be the module.  It sounds like perhaps a bad connection to the instrument cluster, or it could still be the module.  Expensive to replace, I bought a uses cluster from a salvage yard complete for less than just the center module replacement from the dealer.  Can you remove the cluster yourself to check the connections?  Let me know,  Jan
