Audi Repair: Electronic/Windos & sunroof wont open, side marker, unrelated problem

Question
Jan,

I have a 1992 Audi 100S, the Bomb illuminated light keeps beeping on & off, the manual says it could be the tail lights or the headlights so I checked them and they are fine.  My windows and sunroof also won't open.  Thanks God the windows are up and the sunroof is closed but they won't open or go down.  There isn't a fuse for this.  In the manual it says they will be reset when the electrical overload is repairs to which I don't have any idea of what they are talking about. My car runs great and I have over 250 thousand miles on it and I want to keep it as long as possible.  I'm happy to say that the AC does work.  Please help, it's summer, i need the windows to go down and the sunroof to open.

Answer
The warning light you see does indicate a bulb out, could be a license plate light bulb, a side marker or a tail light.  The windows and sunroof are controlled through different circuits, but do rely on a functional load reduction relay.  The load reduction relay takes power from some accessories when starting the engine, and should restore that power when the key goes back to the on position.  If everything else works, then I assume the ignition swithc is OK, it is worth checking the load reduction relay, and possibly the relay for the windows too.  The sunroof may be an unrelated problem, I would check that the motor is getting power and the mechanism is moving freely.  The relays on your car are underneath the dashboard.  let me know what you find,  Jan
