Audi Repair: a4 quattro 2.8 v6 30valve. removal of front drive shaft stubs from gearbox, stub shaft, chassis number

hi there, i have a problem getting the front stub shafts out of the gearbox. the gearbox has developed a problem locking in gear and not being able to select gear. i need to remove these to be able to remove transmission from the cases. everyone i have spoken to says there should be a 6mm allan key in the centre of the stub shaft but this doesn't seem to be the case with the quattro box. any help would be great.

Hi Robert,

Please send me the engine code, gear box code and year of manufacture of the vehicle(the 10th digit from the left on the chassis number)so I can advise you further as per your exact make of gearbox.
All these details can be found on the first page of your service schedule or in the trunk/boot in the spare wheel well
