Audi Repair: Trunk wont close, hatch area, audi a6 avant

I have a 1999 Audi A6 Avant Wagon.  As of this morning the trunk/hatch opened but now won't close.  Everything else seems to be working ok.  Any ideas?

It will not latch, or will not lock?  If it doesn't latch then it sounds like the lock has seized, perhaps you can spray some WD40 in there and get it moving again, or if you're unlucky the lock will have to come out to be overhauled.  Make sure the seal around the hatch area is in it's proper place and there is nothing else obstructing the hatch from fully closing.  Let me know how you get on,  Jan
