Audi Repair: 1999 Audi A4 1.8T AEB no ECM reading, fuel filter, 8t

When i accelerate the car kind of jumps or pulls back, misfires a lot also backfires in intake. I've replaced fuel filter and spark plugs, afterwards my check engine light came on. Took to dealer at my dismay the computer won't scan now to diagnose the problem. No help there but to throw money away. Any suggestions?

If you are not getting an ECM reading, there is obviously a serious issue with the car electrics.  Did you check all the fuses, including the ones under the covers that say Engine or Motor?  Perhaps there is a power issue to the electrics.  Anything recently happen to the car, like a short circuit, or accessory fitted?  It could of course also be a bad ECU.  Let me know,  Jan
