Audi Repair: Audi A3 Tacho gauge, audi a3, instrument cluster

Question
I have an Audi A3 1.8, late 1999 model with faulty tacho gauge(it does not move at all), the speedometer is ok and lights ok. Is there a relay or fuse that could be the cause?

The Tacho on these cars is electronic, so it could be the sensor on the car (actually this normally is coming directly from the computer these days, or a bad connection to the instrument cluster.  Check the connections to the cluster, and I would keep an eye on ebay for a used cluster if the connections seem OK.  There should be some clusters available used to verify your diagnosis...  Le tme know how you get on,  Jan
