Audi Repair: Volkswagen /Audi TDI PD timing marks, crank pulley, tdi pd

Question
Hello,i have a 2003 VW Passat which has an AVF code Pumpe duse TDI 130 bhp engine. Can you tell me if there is a TDC(Top dead centre) reference mark on the flywheel which can be seen from the view hole at the bell housing of the transmission , or indeed a mark on the crank pulley so as i can determine TDC without using special tools!

Regards...Dave Matthews

Answer
Hi there,

As far as i know the timing mark is on the camshaft sproket, there are 2 lugs on the sproket it self and a '4Z' mark on the engine that must align, the one for TDC is designed to align with the mark on the locking tool number T10050. Id align the one on the camshaft then make my own reference marks on the other gears if i dont have access to the special tools.
