Audi Repair: Engine stalling, 3000rpm, fuel rail

Question
I have a 1999 A4 1.8T it started to not want to rev up after running for a while. You are at red light and you give it gas and nothing happens. Now you can not get the engine to go over 3000rpm with out stalling?

Answer
Hi there,

Sounds like a fuel pump fault, does it get better at half throttle? is it worse when under load, or carrying more load then usual?does it idle ok?? whats the current mileage?? when was service carried out?? was the fuel filter replaced??
either the fuel filter is blocked or the fuel pump it self is faulty.

Start with the filter. if the fuel comes out black or with excessive dirt then replace it and test the car. if the problem still persists then move onto the pump. make sure the fuel pressure is up to spec, if not then follow the line to make sure there are no blockages. After your are satisfied that the lines are clear from the fuel tank to the fuel rail on the engine then move on to the pump. from experience the most likely cause is the pump but the steps outlined above should save you from replacing uneccessary parts
