Audi Repair: 1999 a6 2.8 quattro usa, fuel pressure gauge, saddle tank

Question
Hello, my 99 a6 quattro 2.8 non turbo is still acting up. I replaced the MAF twice now, and the problem is not so severe now, but when i give it a little more gas than i should(floor it) or just floor it leaving a stop, the car will hesitate, sometimes make a popping from engine compartment, and then go to normal after 1-4 seconds. My engine light is not on, it has only been on once before for O2 sensor, but i dought that is what is causing it. What could the problem be? it has only started happening recently, Thanks.

Answer
Sounds like you have a fuel problem, the popping sound is the fuel detonating because the engine is running lean, remove the plugs and check the color, they should be a light shade of grey or might have a reddish tan, if they are white then there is a problem with the fuel sysrtem.... either your fuel pump is giving up or your filter is chocked, start with the filter replace it then if that doesn't help then if you have access to a fuel pressure gauge connect it and confirm the right pressure is displayed, if you don't have access to a gauge then replace the pump, and as yours is a quattro with a saddle tank it will have 2 pumps, one main and the other feed.check both of them.
let me know if this helps
