Audi Repair: Audi a3 2004 cooling fan fault, audi a3 2004, audi a3

Question
Hi. I have a 2004 2.0 td. The smaller cooling fan of the 2 has been over running now it wont go off and the battery is dead. I have taken it to Audi who have booked me in next week but have not discussed the problem. Is this going to be an expensive repair or will a diy fix work? Please help. Thanks

Answer
Should just be a bad thermo switch in the bottom of the radiator.  Very quick to fix, switch should only be around $10 or so.  I would charge the battery up, since leaving it flat for a long time will probably hurt the battery.  If the fan keeps going, disconnect the battery every time you park.  Make sure the engine isn't too hot when you park the car, or allow the fan to run for a few minutes after switching off the engine to make sure.  Let me know,  Jan
