Audi Repair: 2002 Audi A4 1.8T will not move out of park, solenoid, 8t

Question
Got into my car this evening, to realize, after starting the engine, with no problem, I was not able to move the shifter into reverse or at all. Turned off the car and attempted to try again with no success. My foot was on the brake and the car is not on a hill, but parked inside the garage. Please help.

Answer
There is a solenoid that has to pull a pin out when the brake pedal is depressed.  Perhaps the bake pedal switch is bad, or the solenoid is not working, or a relay is faulty.  The brake pedal switch would be my first check, there is also a fuse S231 which powers the solenoid.  Let me know what you find,  Jan
