Audi Repair: Audi A6 1998 Windsheild Wipers, Turn Signals, Rear Defrost etc... Stopped Working, import specialists, audi a6

Question
QUESTION: I drove down the road to the store and everything was working fine. When I started the car back up the windshield wipers would not work, the heater blower, turn signals, cc, rear defrost all would not work. Any help would be great. Thank you very much!

ANSWER: Sounds like your ignition switch partly died, or a wire came off.  Fairly easy to replace.  Let me know,  Jan

QUESTION: Is that located inside the steering column? Can you buy these at normal automotive stores?

ANSWER: The electrical part is connected at the rear of the part where the key is put in.  Typically you can get to it easily when you remove the instrument cluster.  This is not a part you can get at normal automotive stores, but typically you can get it at import specialists.  Let me know how you get on,  Jan

QUESTION: Ok so the day I took it in to get the ignition switch replaced everything worked(b/f it was replaced). The switch was replaced then about 200 miles later it is back to the same thing. Rear defrost, blower, wipers, wiper spray, blinkers, cruise, also the interior light act weird they will be really dim and then really bright it is not a smooth trasition just bright dim... bright dim. I was wondering if you had any other idea.

Answer
The problem you describe does have the characteristics of part of the switched ignition circuit failing.  If the switch replacement did not work (and it sounds like it didn't) then it could be a faulty relay or perhaps a fuse is not making good contact.  Poor contacts can give the bright-dim phenomena you describe.  I would check all the fuses first for proper contact.  let me know what you find,  Jan
