Audi Repair: Audi A3, audi a3, instrument cluster

Question
Hi, i have an Audi A3 1.6 and last weekend i had to drive it a mile and a half before any of the gauges on the dashboard worked. When i start it up its says 'OK' and since that weekend its done it 3 more times. The lights work and the indicators also, but the speed, rev count, petrol gauge and mileage etc don't work or light up. Can you explain what may be wrong?

Answer
It sounds like the cluster is not getting power until things warm up.  It could also be a voltage regulator at the back of the instrument cluster which is acting up.  So I would check all the fuses, make sure they all make good contact and are OK.  If they are OK I would suggest checking the plugs at the back of the instrument cluster, and checking the small 'chip' looks like a transistor held also on the back with a philips screw for good contacts.  Let me know,  Jan
