Audi Repair: 1999 a6 quattro, brake pads and rotors, mass airflow sensor

Question
Hello, i have a 1999 a6 quatrro 2.8 30v. When pulling away from a stop light or applying gas after coasting, the engine kind of dogs down and is very sluggish. Another thing is that when i am driving normally it feels like the engine cuts out for half a second, then starts to accelerate again. What could be doing this? I bought a used MAF from a car junkyard, could it be faulty? Another question i have are the brakes. Can i buy a set of brake pads and rotors from autozone or are they a special kind with sensors or something, and what would you say the difficulty rating is on changing the brakes and rotors?

Thanks

Answer
Was the performance the same with both MAF's?  Unlikely both are bad, although it could happen  If the car the used MAF came out of was crashed, chances are it ran OK.  The brakes on your car should be standard units; most stores can supply these but I would go with a German brand.  Changing pads and rotors is messy; not difficult.  I would get the codes read out to diagnose the poor running, it could be a sensor, fuel pressure, mass airflow sensor or EGR system.  Let me know,  Jan
