Audi Repair: my rpm gauge doesnt work, gauge cluster, signal wire

hi i just bought a 1996 2.8 audi a4 and the rpm gauge does not work is this a simple thing to fix or is this something expensive.

Answer
The RPM gauge or tacho is an electronic unit.  It taks a signal from the ECU and displays the result.  This problem could either be the actual gauge or the signal wire is broken.  Easiest thing to check is if the gauge is OK, is to substitute the gauge cluster and see if it works.
