Audi Repair: 4WD tires, 4wd tires, bad tire

Hi Greg,
My wife has a 1996 A6 Quatro with an unrepairable tire. She was told she needed to replace all 4 by the tire shop. The service writer at the authorized Audi dealer told her she would be just fine to replace just the back pair. Her book seems to be contradictory on the subject. What do you think (know) about it? Are the older Audis perhaps different than the new ones? Thanks for you help!!

O well, on my own car I will just replace bad tire and be fine with it. Just make sure it's the same size.
The best thing is to have the same tires on on the axle, So replacing only two it will be fine.
Once again, they all have to have same size.
