Audi Repair: 98 Audi A-8 Quatro 4.2, solenoid valve, output shaft

Question
139k miles, transmission issue, when you shift the car into reverse its fine, when shifted into drive the car goes nowhere and there's a loud bang when the rpm's reach 1200. The car will barely move (almost like it's in a very high gear not in first like it's supposed to be).  Once the bang is heard the gear selector on the dash (PRND321)all light up and shifting into another gear doesn't change the indicator lights, everything is all lit up.  Going into the manual mode tiptronic mode makes no difference either.  When you turn the ignition off and restart the engine the gear selector indicator lights are normal again until the gear selector is put into Drive or any other forward gear for that matter.  At this point there is a bang at the 1200 RPM level and then the car will barely creep foward again like its starting out in a very high gear. And all the gear selector lights on the dash are on.  Another  thing, the check engine light came on also. On a side note:  the transmission was rebuilt about 30k miles ago completely including a new torque converter.  Can you help me??  Please....

Answer
hello
This has to be check by somebody with scanner, Every time gear selector lights up - there is a fault in TCM , also your check engine light is on - This has to be checked first. With out the faults nothing can be done.

hello
this not easy, P0730 is the problem - it can be
Sender for transmission output RPM -G195- faulty
ATF-level not OK or ATF contaminated
or Clutch slipping/faulty or solenoid valve dirty/faulty
I think the easiest will be checking trans fluid (audi use systhetic clear fluid) make sure level is OK and it's not very dirty , they all get darker color after a while. But I never saw black . If it's burned (you can smell it)- your clutch is bad
If fluid is OK , I will replace rpm sensor for output shaft on transmision, located (I think)on right side on trans, very far back ,close to rear shaft .
If this does not help - you may have bad valve bady or slipping clutches.
