Audi Repair: Audi transmission, emission control system, a6 quattro

Question
QUESTION: Greg    We have a 99 a6 quattro wagon. It has the triptronic automatic trans. Once in a while, when cold it wouldn't shift. If you would use the manual method it would be ok and then would be normal after a few minutes. This was really only when cold. It has been ok lately. The other day all the lights came on in the gear selection place,(PRND321,) (I don't remember the exact numbers.) When this was all lit, it was stuck in 3rd I think. when you pull out it is in 3rd and it doesn't shift. If you turn off the key and restart it would be ok.  Any thoughts?  Thanks    Jim
ANSWER: hello
Looks like transmision went into limp mode (emergency running mode). Every time gear selector lights up , fault is being stored in TCM (trans module). So to help you out I will need to know what was it. I your case fault will be stored as sporadic. Most of the time it happens again and than check engine comes ON for transmision.
If it's OK I will drive it and see and see what hapen or you can check for any faults.

QUESTION: Greg  There are two codes up. 1471 which was there,is P1471 EVAP Emission Control System L.D.P. Circuit - Short to B+ A . Haven't gotten around to looking at this but I don't think the two are related.
Now there is also 1857 which I haven't found yet. This problem has happened a few times and my wife won't use the car!!!!  I need to figure it out or take it to a shop and get hosed.!   FYI it has about 103k miles.          Thanks          Jim

Answer
hello
The 2 faults are in ECM (engine module) not TCM (Trans module). Most like it there will be one or more in TCM.
The P1857 is for LOAD SIGNAL, - this this fault has something to do with Trans, but I'm not sure what.
I have never seen or work on this problem so I can't help you with this, SORRY.  My repair manual said - said faulty ECM or mechanical fault in engine. This needs to be check by somebody from shop or dealer.
good luck          pltech/ Greg
I asked for TCM faults not ECM. and this is not a home fix
