Audi Repair: engine problem, camshaft sensor, faulty sensor

Question
I have a VW Touareg 2004 3.2 liter the same engine in the audi TT.  The Check engine light is on and it is idling very bad.  I got a code reader and it said code P0016.  Cam and Crank not in correlation.  I thought it might be the camshaft sensor but they are OK.  Now I think it may be an oil pressure issue.  I have dropped the oil pan and cleaned the pump and screen. The idling is still bad.  I have come to the conclusion that it may be the Valve 1 For the Camshaft adjustment sensor or could it be the Intake camshaft adjuster on the cams.  Please help with this question I am out of Answers.  If it is the sensor how do you check them because they cost to much to replace without knowing 650.00 ea.

Answer
hello
to check cam sensor - pin 1 and 3 - 4.5V ( on harness)with key ON. If you have voltage there - faulty sensor. If there is no voltage - test wires from connector to ECM.
to check RPM sensor-- pin 2 and 3 ( sensor) check resistance 480 - 1000 ohms
Check sensor for short circuit between terminals 1 + 2 as well as 1 + 3

If specified values are not obtained - replace sensor
good luck                       Greg
