Audi Repair: 99 A4 AEB Cranks but no spark, coolant temp, engine knock

Question
Hi Greg, I was at a drive thru coffee joint (thankfully) and my engine just died while i was sitting there in "D". It would not restart. Was able to coast it over to a parking spot and then had it towed to my house.
I had been noticing an engine knock under load lately so I added some fuel inj cleaner that morning before I left for work. I have a half of a tank of gas so was going to start using higher octane on next fill-up.
This is what I have done so far: I replaced the ignition module a few months back so i tested that per the Bently manual and it seems fine. I pulled the plugs and they were wet with fuel. I cleaned them up and  tested each one for spark on engine crank..no spark(plugs are ok).
I went out and bought a scanner and there was 1 code P0118- Eng coolant temp circ high input. I am ordering a coolant temp sensor even tho it tested ok resistance wise per the manual. Could the coolant temp cause a no spark situation?
Thank you in advance! Kerry

Answer
Hi
P0118 may couse hard starts - sometimes, because ECT sensor (most of the times ) shows -40 C and ECM is trying sent more fuel which just floods the engine. Most of the times just step on gas and crank it , it will start the car.
I don't think bad ECT sensor will couse no spark.
I will make sure all fuses ar OK, fuse #32 gives power to output stage (or ignition module) If it's OK I will try new one, I know that they are not cheap..
good luck                       pltech
