the cruise control works completely.

when I turn cruise off the check engine light immediately goes off.

This problem only occurred after changing the air bag

Thanks

ANSWER: Hello Ron:
This one is a little strange.
There is nothing in the airbag system that would create this problem or trigger that light.  The SRS (airbag) system is independent of the engine computer and systems.  The cruise control however does work with the BCM (Body Control Module) and can create other issues.

The only thing I can think of offhand is that the connectors may have been damaged when it was assembled, or a wire is touching a ground in the cruise system somewhere.  You didn't say why you changed the airbag--I'm assuming it deployed.  If that's the case, then the clockspring may be damaged as well.  The wires for the cruise use the clockspring as well and thus might be the culprit.
We're just throwing darts though.  The correct method of diagnosing it is with a scan tool and fault codes.

I hope this helps

does this shed any light

Answer
Hi Ron:

It doesn't change my answer or suspicion, but tells me you changed a control module you didn't need to.  Mopar does not require it and it would have reset if the rest of the airbag circuit was ok.  The clockspring is still in question as is anything else that was affected when you had the accident to the front end (that's where the cruise control module and all the other engine components are that would trigger the check engine light).
