Auto Airbag System Repair: airbag light, dray, water damage

I have a2000 olds intrigue,the gasket under the wipers on the pass side came off and water leaked on the floor then the airbag light came on.I think the connection to the module under the seat got wet,the carpet is over this how do i dry the connection.

Hello Martinez:

Sorry about your situation.  Most likely the leak has come form a another part of the windshield or pill, but that doesn't change your dilemma.

There is no good way to dry out the connector other than taking it apart and allowing it to air dray for as long as it takes.  the other problem you have is the control module itself and the carpeting and insulation over it.  both of those are also most likely soaking wet.  I would recommend replacing the SDM (control unit) rather than chancing it drying safely.  I have witnessed and investigated too many water damage accidental deployments to say otherwise.  
Regarding the carpet, using a good fan and or replacing it with dry insulation would be my best suggestion.

Please refer the a blog my company has posted a while ago about this very situation.  Please be careful and diligent in repairing this correctly or there could be sever consequences to you or a loved one.
