Auto Airbag System Repair: Reset airbag system 08 jeep cherokee, jeep grand cherokee, jeep cherokee

Question
I need to replace the front airbags in my 08 jeep grand Cherokee. According to airbagsolutions.com I need to replace the airbags and seat belt pensioners. When it comes to resetting the airbag I'm a little confused. Is it necessary for me to calibrate the OCS and reset the light using star scan or can I just buy a new module and ovoid both those steps. I currently have the idea that by replacing the module there is no need for me to buy any sort of scanner or reset tool.

Answer
Hi Curtis:

Once you replace the parts listed, the system will most likely reset itself, unless there is a problem with the OCS or the Airbag Control unit.  If, when you are done the light is on, then you need to take it to the dealer for the star scan to see why or to have the OCS recalibrated.

Replacing the airbag module (control unit) will only guarantee that you have to go to the dealer as the new ones come without any information so they don't know what car you just installed it in and it will HAVE to be calibrated to your vehicle.

Jeep usually resets itself after a front deployment without any scan tool required.  Go ahead and put in just the parts listed in AirbagSolutions and you should be fine when complete.  Just make sure you do it with the battery disconnected
