Auto Electronics: 2004 Chevy Aveo LS electrical problem, 2004 chevy aveo, chevy aveo

Question
I am having a problem with a 2004 Chevy Aveo LS.  The passenger side tail light and parking light are both out.  At first I noticed the marker bulb in the front was bad, but replacing it did not help.  I checked the fuse and it was blown, but as soon as I replaced it and turned the lights on, it blew again.  Any suggestions as to where I can begin tracking this electrical problem?

Answer
Tony, Anytime a fuse blows as you describe, it is known as a short circuit. Basically a wire or component has become connected to ground somewhere in the circuit in front of the load. Looking at the wiring diagram for your vehicle reveals that the fuse in question protects several branch lighting circuits. Way too many for you to test unless this is what you do for a living. Something has happened to the vehicle to cause this, you would be best served trying to figure out what and then where. Has the vehicle been an accident recently? Any work done, especially electrical? Have there been any aftermarket electronics added on the vehicle lately? Does it have any aftermarket devices installed that might have wired poorly and now are causing this short circuit. Possibly water intrusion from heavy rains have gotten into a module and shorted it out, or into a light socket causing it to be shorted. I hope this helps you. Don.
