Auto Electronics: Emergency flashers come on when trying to use left turn signal., volkswagen wiring diagrams, turn signal switch

Hello Donald,

My name is Doug and I'm trying to fix a problem with my 98 Volkswagen Jetta. Every time I use my left turn signal the emergency ( hazard ) flashers come on. I've replaced all the fuses and the bulbs are working fine. I'm kind of awed at how to fix this problem.

Doug, I have to admit up front that the Volkswagen wiring diagrams I am using are of poor quality. It appears that the hazard flasher switch, turn signal switch and hazard relay are all one assembly. More than likely this is where the problem lies, I can see no other possibility. Good luck. Don.
