Cadillac Repair: 2006 SRX, Progressive SIU investigations, EUO

Question
Sometimes too many the T/C (traction) comes on, gas gauge goes to empty (tank is full), air conditioner blows warm air, anti- theft message appears on message screen. Another words all systems/gauges appear to stop working.  Also when I kill the car, I cannot get key out of ignition.  I have to restart car (sometimes more than once) to get all systems back on and get the key out. I never have a problem starting my car. What is my problem, and what do you think problem will cost me? Do you think this will cause my car to not start at some point?

Answer
Hello,

Well, you are speaking of two separate issues. You have the mechanical when it relates to getting the ignition key out. The other issue is electronic and the two are not related.
As far as the ignition lock and key, this could be caused by a bad park cable which is common. Doesn't matter if standard or automatic, both work the same way. There is a cable that goes from the ignition to the transmission gear selector lever. Over time, the cable frays and bunches up on the plastic tubing. It's purpose is that when the transmission is locked in Park or reverse, the key won't come out unless in the lock position. Sometimes these cables only need to be adjusted. I have changed hundreds in all sorts of makes and models.

Or the ignition lock or key are faulty, but the most common is the cable. People would pay the money to have the ignition and key changed, only to see they had the same problem, finding later the problem was the Park cable.

As for your electronic problems. You could have a bad computer. If the IP is digital, that could be bad. However, the first place I would check is go under the dash and check all the ground points. There may be numerous ground points. You will see numerous wires and eyelets that are attached to steel such as the firewall. You would remove the bolt. Scrape the steel and eyelets to bare metal and replace the bolt. You have an old car that has been subjected to lots of vibration and moisture over the years. This is again a common problem and would be the first thing I would check.

As far as one day, the vehicle stranding you or the key not coming out of the ignition? Well, the vehicle did not come with these issues new did it? Eventually, the key won't come out of the ignition and the electronics is not getting any better and will only get worse after time.

Let me know what you find.

Good luck.
